The selection of natural oils for this treatment is based on the individual’s Ayurvedic body type or constitution. These oils are kept at a specific temperature within a ring for a particular duration, allowing them to deeply penetrate the cells and alleviate tense and rigid muscles. Subsequently, the Ayurvedic therapist targets specific marma (energy) points to rejuvenate the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and associated structures. Following this, a 15-minute Nadi Swedana herbal fomentation treatment is administered, directing herbal steam to the back. This steam augments the effects of the Kati Basti, facilitating deeper oil penetration into the muscles. Typically lasting 5 to 7 days as prescribed by Ayurvedic doctors, Kati Basti, along with recommended herbs, is the preferred treatment for lumbar or spinal discomfort from an Ayurvedic perspective. It also offers relief for stomach-related painful conditions such as IBS, UTI, menstrual issues, and endometriosis. Additionally, it aids in strengthening joints, muscles, and soft tissues, improving circulation, and enabling a return to work and daily activities.
